8 September in Bielany, Kraków
The monastery in Bielany, near Krakow, is the oldest Polish monastery of the Camaldoli congregation. It was founded between 1603 and 1605. Camaldolese monks have been living in a constant relationship with nature for over 400 years in Poland, respecting the teachings of Romuald of Ravenna, who lived between the 10th and 11th centuries. The first contact with this way of life in Poland was brought by Bruno of Querfurt, a friend and disciple of Romuald from the early years after 1000.
