In an attempt to manage, control and, at times, exploit fear to their advantage, human beings have given this emotion countless forms. This volume contains most of the contributions presented during the doctoral conference held at the University of Genoa in October 2024, entitled Le Forme della Paura (The Forms of Fear). In the dossier, fear is studied in its various visual, verbal and gestural manifestations in the fields of literature, entertainment, folkloric beliefs and the visual arts in historical periods and cultures ranging from the ancient world to the contemporary world.
