Gianluca Olcese, The Baìo of Sampeyre

Anthropological-comparative aspects of carnival

In Sampeyre, a village nestled in the Occitan Piedmont Alps, an ancient festival, the Baìo, is held every five years. With anthropological insight and philological attention, the essay examines the distinctive features of the tradition and the socio-cultural changes that have affected the territory, language and local community over time. The comparison with other European realities also provides valuable food for thought and insight.
